Dungy to leave

Posted on: January 12, 2009 11:36 am

CBS Sports has confirmed that Tony Dungy will step down as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, with the announcement to be made at an afternoon press conference. The news had been expected after the Colts last season announced that Dungy would return to open their new stadium and that Jim Caldwell, the team's associate head coach, would succeed Dungy when he stepped down. Dungy leaves after a storied career with the Colts that included a Super Bowl victory, seven playoff appearances, five division titles and two AFC championship games in seven seasons. It is unclear if Dungy's staff will remain intact.

Dungy to leave

I'm glad for Tony!  The most respected coach in the NFL.  He's only 53 years young, I hope he returns to coaching in 2010.

Dungy to leave

I am not a Colts fan, but it is a shame that Tony Dungy is going to retire.  I suppose that he wants to spend time with his family, so I can't fault him.  He had a hell of a career, and I wouldn't be suprised if he does not return to coaching for a long time, if ever.  However, sometimes that bug to coach again bites these guys that retire.  It will be interesting to see how the Colts perform under Jim Caldwell next year.

Good riddance?????  Clearly you have no idea what a great human being Tony Dungy is and what he does for the community.  Oh, and by the way.....he is a heck of a coach!!!  Most teams would kill for the success that the Colts have had under Dungy.

You obviously know nothing about the man. He's a great coach and an AMAZING human being. More teams should be so blessed to have a coach like him.
