Warner close to deciding on future

Posted on: January 27, 2010 3:27 pm

Persons close to Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner said he wants to make a decision on his future before next week's Super Bowl engagements and anticipate that he will have something to say later this week -- perhaps by Friday.

There is no indication, however, in which direction Warner is leaning. One league source said he thought Warner was thinking seriously about retirement immediately after the end of the season but that he might have changed his mind since. "My understanding," he said, "is that he could go in either direction."

Warner at one time this season said he might retire after the year, but he did not address the subject following the club's playoff loss to New Orleans -- saying only that he needed time to sort things out. It appears now that he knows what he will do and will share it with the public soon. Stay tuned.

Warner close to deciding on future

If I was the Cards I would hope he stays. He didn't look as sharp as last year but even if his play gets worse in '10, Warner is still the best option they have at QB. I'd say Warner is still better than most QB's out there, why not play another year. It's not like he's a lineman or a RB and will have major health problems from giving it one more year. Also in 15 yrs he'll probably look back and regret that year he didn't come back b/c he knows he still had it

Once he leaves, he won't pull a Farve and come back! It's not his M.O.!
Isn't this the same guy who said he wanted to stay until he felt the team was in the best position possible to win?  What would you call a Superbowl appearance followed by a playoff appearance.  Time for Warner to hang it up.

I am torn on this one.  For selfish reasons, I want him to come back.  The league is a lot more exciting with him in it.  Thank goodness he came back this year or the GB-AZ classic would not have occurred.  But, the hit he took against NO was scary.  If he had hit his head, no way he comes back next year.  I would hate to see him come back and get hurt.  Maybe it's better that he go out as close to being on top as you can.  A Super Bowl and Conference Semi-Final are nothing to laugh at.  He is a great QB and a class act.  I wish him well either way.

Isn't this the same person who said he was staying until he felt they had gotten the team to a point where they were in the best position to win?  What would you call a Superbowl appearance followed by a playoff appearance?  Time for Warner to step aside.

Please stay Kurt. The team needs you. Give us one more chance at a deep playoff run and possible Super Bowl title.

Depending on what the docs say about his concussion issue(s), he should give it another year, IMO. He's still a top 10 QB in the league, and the Cardinals will likely be a playoffs team again next year. He can further cement his status as a HOF player if he has a year similar to this past one. And...once it's over, it's over so keep playing if you can do so at a high level. He can.

What? A future HOF QB deciding his fate before the first pitch of spring training is thrown out? Warner should be applauded for his class both on and off the field.

I am not looking forward to Friday as Matt Leinart is the heir apparent at the position. Couple that with Boldin leaving Phoenix faster than an escaped penguin and the future is not as bright in Phoenix. I cannot see him coming back for another year with all the concussion scares that are going on. Unlike many other athletes he has only one family to support so the extra money is probably irrelevant.

Kurt, thank you from Phoenix for stopping by and making our football team relevant for a while.

Why does the media hound these guys relentless about what there next decision will be. Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals and the greatest show on turf with the Rams. The media has hounded Favre  since his days in Green Bay The Jets and the Vikings. 1 field goal and the Saints would be at home they both played like great quarterbacks. leave them alone it should be a personal matter between them and their family's.

He's still sharp, has a quick release and on a team loaded with talent that's built to win now! He can't help the defensive side of the ball, but can be very productive for the last year of his contract! I hope and think he will be back for one last season! The HOF can wait and he knows it. Once he leaves, he won't pull a Farve and come back! It's not his M.O.! We should all know the answer come Friday! Good luck Kurt!
