Looks like the Philadelphia Eagles have their backup to Michael Vick. Would Vince Young come on down?

The Eagles are expected to add Young, who was released by Tennessee on Thursday, and sit him behind Vick as the team's backup. Mike Kafka, a 2010 draft pick, is the third-stringer.

The addition of Young makes sense -- all the way around. Young needs to start over, as Vick did when he was released from prison in 2009, and the Eagles are the perfect spot. In fact, it seemed so good a day ago I wrote a story about it -- saying the Eagles should talk to the guy and that he was the right guy for this situation.

Looks like they're following through, with Young a virtual certainty to join the team. The move is a good one for the Eagles, who gain an experienced backup with playoff experience, and a great one for Young, who can step back and rebuild his career while sitting behind Vick.

If Vick were to go down, I have full faith that Vince Young could step in instantly and run the exact same game plan with no problem whatsoever.  Great move by the Eagles...and honestly one of my favorite free agent moves this entire year

After thinking about it a little bit I have to say that's a statement I can't disagree with, especially if they need VY to play 8 or 10 games into the season once he got settled in a bit.   That being said the Eagles are negotiating with Vick on what's likely to be a big money long term deal so VY would never take Vick's job away from him, but if needed for a couple or a few games at any point he might be able to do the job.

I looked at VY's stats and realize I dismissed him a little too early.  Just last season in about 8 starts the guy had a qb rating of almost 100.  The year before in about 10 starts I think his qb rating was over 8.  A few seasons ago the guy RUSHED for 500 yards.

The problem is the guy has been a headcase for a while now.  Does that change?  Maybe, maybe not.  But considering how desperate some teams are for a qb I'm shocked nobody else acquired his services for at least a shot at a starting position.  Kinda weird if you ask me...

DUDE....Andy Reid is a pimp.  I mean all the media talk about how it was not a good decision to get rid of Kolb etc, etc...  No one really thought about what he would do next (including myself)...and he goes and gets a pure winner- complete freak athlete who I think has way more going for him than Kolb ever will.   If Vick were to go down, I have full faith that Vince Young could step in instantly and run the exact same game plan with no problem whatsoever.  Great move by the Eagles...and honestly one of my favorite free agent moves this entire year.

I keep telling this to people too but they just refuse to listen.  They've already formed an opinion in their mind and no amount of evidence will force them to change it.

Isn't it just amazing how people on these boards ignore facts and regardless of what proof they are provided never change their opinion?

Of the 4 games he missed last year only 2 were because of an injury. One of the others was because they had a bye week coming up and since Vick had been out 2 games Reid figured the extra rest would be good and the last one was week 17 where teams fake injuries all the time to keep the NFL from fining them for not putting their best team on the field.   The last 4 seasons Vick played prior to last season he missed a total of 3 games due to injury to be exact.....

But he's injury prone???  I don't get people sometimes... don't understand what they are talking about or where they get their info from.

I know Vince Young is a bit immature, and the Titans didn't really help him develop emmotionally. Should they? Maybe he would still be there...he won some games and was in the pro bowl. As for the Eagles getting him as a backup, it's probably the right move...similar styles in athleticism with Michael Vick and VY has a good, strong arm.

I think Andy Reid will be good for him, because he has the right temperment and understands what it's like to see a person fall from grace. Vick did it, and he was given a chance, now Vince. I hope he does well, except against the Cowboys.
