Lynn out in Philadelphia?

Posted on: January 7, 2012 3:00 pm

In the first of what could be a series of offseason moves, it appears that secondary/cornerbacks coach Johnnie Lynn is out in Philadelphia. In fact, a source I trust told me he's been fired.

The Eagles have not made an announcement, but the club is expected to make sweeping changes in the wake of a disapppointing 8-8 season -- made possible only when the Eagles won their last four games.

While the Eagles ranked 10th vs. the pass, and opposing quarterbacks completed only 58 percent of their passes against them, they did allow 27 touchdown passes. Nevertheless, that was four fewer than 2010.

Lynn was hired prior to last season after coaching the secondary in San Francisco.

Lynn out in Philadelphia?

Asomugha should have been playing press coverage from the first snap of the year.  Let Cromartie take the other corner and ask Asante Samuel to play safety.  He never plays true corner coverage anyway and spends more time looking into the backfield and cheating on coverage trying to pick the ball off.  Let him do it full time.  Stupid Eagles.
DRC was very inconsistent in coverage though, the Eagles started playing better when he moved down the depth chart. But I think what you wrote isn't a bad idea either.

Actually that is all of them. All are extremely inconsistent.

Should scrap the entire coaching staff and start again.
A talented team that did nothing. Really.

Lynn out in Philadelphia?

Unless Johnnie Lynn is the dumbass who decided Nnamdi Asomugha should be playing zone instead of press one-on-one coverage, he's just a scapegoat because Andy Reid doesn't have the courage to admit he failed in naming Juan Castillo as defensive coordinator.

Although the secondary was beat for a bunch of TD passes this season, it was not the fault of the position coach Lynn.  The fact that the Eagle braintrust added two quality players in Asomugha and Dominique Rogers-Cromartie but didn't know how to use them properly should not have cost Lynn his job.

Typical, gutless Andy Reid move.  He stands up in the press conferences and takes the blame publicly.  "I have to put players in a better position to make plays."  Blah, blah, blah.  You say that after every game.  And then he turns around and does something stupid like having his coaches force a system on players that they haven't played before and expect them to be just as successful when you don't let them do what they do best.
